I don't particularly like summer. The sticky humidity and the heat wrapping around my body are the reasons, but ironically, the joy that helps me endure this season blooms right here:
the sunset and the clouds.
For a long time, I've felt that they are constantly sending me "something." A passage from a Buddhist scripture comes to mind: "Sunsets have a special efficacy in calming anger."
It applies to me perfectly. Whether it was a fierce and rewarding day or a day I stumbled and faltered, the sunset and clouds I meet at the end of the day bring every balance gently back into place. They are a complete gift in themselves, and the very reason I wait for tomorrow.
The cloud series (Youngdong Bridge, 2016), which began by chance as I was capturing moments crossing Seoul's Youngdong Bridge, has come this far. The reason I decided to bundle up [Another Summer] as a spin-off project is simple:
I wanted to get closer to the subject I truly yearn for. That's all.
"Even though it's just for a season of summer, the reason I chase clouds every year is simple. Peace of mind. I have foolish daydreams of playing up on the clouds, and absurd thoughts that it wouldn't be bad to be born as a cloud in my next life, even if I'm bound to drift aimlessly and vanish somewhere."
